Šibenik – Žut tour
The Croatian town Šibenik is a highly recommended destination in Croatia. The town is full of incredible historical sites, beautiful beachfront restaurants and quaint streets and squares – exactly what you would expect from a medieval coastal town in Croatia.
The city is located in Dalmatia, the place where the river Krka flows into the Adriatic Sea. It is considered the oldest indigenous Croatian town and today it is a political, industrial and tourist centre of Šibenik-Knin County.
Because of its great geographical location, you can easily visit many towns around Šibenik and experience Dalmatia’s rich history, culture and stunning nature. So, after visiting the city, we recommend setting sail and exploring the islands and islets of Šibenik.
The best way to get the most out of your beach vacation is to rent the Taxi Boat Šibenik – in this way, you can explore the islands at your own pace and without stressing about the transportation and ferries, if there even are ferries available to the small islands. This is also the way to have a completely stress-free vacation, to reach the islands safely and quickly while enjoying complete and utter privacy!
What tours should you take from Šibenik?
From the islet of Obonjan to the island of Prvić with the Fausto Veranzio Museum, to the quiet Zlarin, the island with the longest coastal promenade in Croatia, which can be reached in just 30 minutes by ferry or by a private boat, there are numerous locations that await exploring in the Šibenik archipelago. Of course, there are beautiful beaches on all the islands – so don’t forget your swimwear!
It would also be a shame not to visit the Krka and Kornati National Parks. In the National Park Krka, seven breathtaking waterfalls and untouched nature await you, where you can take long walks and enjoy the wonderful scenery.
The National Park Kornati consists of 89 islands and islets. The islands are made of limestone and are only sparsely covered in vegetation, if at all. Their bleakness testifies to the hard island life of the local inhabitants, but also to the unreal beauty of this area.
A wonderful experience awaits you if you choose the island Žut for your destination. This small island will definitely enchant you with its crystal-clear sea and wonderful nature.
The island Žut
Žut is one of the smaller islands from the Kornati archipelago, located between the island of Kornati and the island of Pašman. This elongated island has a steep and very indented coastline with numerous bays, such as Luka, Hiljača or Bizikovica, all of which offer a Robinsonian atmosphere. These bays also provide a natural haven for boats and yachts.
There are no permanently inhabited settlements on the island. Only fishermen or shepherds, olive growers or fig pickers from the island of Murter stay on Žut periodically during the year. You can reach the island on your own or on a rented boat.
Strunac is located in the heart of the Kornati archipelago, on the uninhabited island of Žut and it is one of the most beautiful bays there. This place, which is located 25 kilometres from the island of Murter offers excellent food, a warm crystal-clear turquoise sea, a magical view and very friendly people.
Strunac and the island of Žut are perfect places to escape from everyday, busy life. They are some of the increasingly rare examples of pure, untouched nature. This island is famous for being a popular location among sailors, and every single one of them is attracted to Žut because of the same reasons – the wonderful nature, the turquoise sea and the dark lush greenery that hides the Kornati stone.
What else can you see in the area of the Žut island?
The great thing about the island of Žut is its close proximity to the Kornati Islands, which are a labyrinth of islands, islets and rocks. The Kornati archipelago covers an area of about 320 square kilometres, and this is the most developed island ecosystem in the Adriatic Sea, which includes as much as 12% of all the islands of the Adriatic Sea. This sea surface has long attracted the attention of numerous sailors, divers, hikers and other nature lovers.
The island of Pašman in Dalmatia is the ideal destination for holidaymakers who are looking for another quiet place to rest and relax in Croatia. The island is known for its breathtaking natural landscape and its beautiful bathing bays. There are also numerous historical buildings and much more waiting to be explored.
Telašćica Nature Park is located in the extreme south of the island of Dugi Otok and is known for its high cliffs and the salt lake Mir. It is one of the largest and most beautiful bays on the Croatian coast. The scenic beauty of Telašćica Bay, which is visited by many guests on organised excursions, is best described by the famous sentence: ‘When God created the world, he was especially generous here.’
If you are looking to visit some places with more crowds, there are the famous towns of Zadar and Šibenik, and the National Park Krka, all in close proximity to the Žut island. So, whatever type of holidaymaker you are, this area has got you covered! If you are looking for sightseeing, sunbathing, exploring or relaxing – there is a special place for everyone.
